Reviews

Cork and Crown Reviews a 2020 Pet Nat.

"I believe this perry could be perfection in a bottle! It's so delicate and light with lovely sweet strawberry notes. I knew perry could be this good but this really opened my eyes to what fine perry can be" - Field & Orchard.

"Another very class still cider from one of Herefordshire's outstanding small producers: Redvers." - A_Cider_Diary

"Redvers is new to the Cellar but quickly becoming a star in their own right!" - Malvern Cellar

A glorious Pet Nat...An amazing orange colour, gentle mouth-filling fizz which just perfect in my opinion. Billed as dry but so full of soft fruit it doesn't seem like it. Lovely soft tannins too. - A_Cider_Diary

"I try not to swear on here but this perry was F**king incredible! Using Aylton Red pears this perry is brought to fully dryness, is still and bursts with flavour...this perry blew me away." - Field & Orchard

A word on pricing

For those new to traditional cider and perry the price can be eye brow raising when compared to commercial cider. I researched the price of 38 craft ciders across 8 producers and the average price for a 750ml bottle was £10.20 – not cheap.

This is due in part to methods of production and economies of scale. Commercial ciders will often contain the legal minimum amount of juice (35%), which is boiled into a concentrate before water is added. They will be fermented very quickly and the fizz will be artificially added using CO2. In contrast, Redvers ciders and perries are made using 100% juice which is fermented slowly over many months, with fizz generated naturally in the bottle.

In pricing my own cider I seek to balance the cost of production with accessibility, I would like to bring in new people to the world of natural and traditional cider.

Example: If I charge a stockist £4.50 for a 750ml bottle (below market rate for a natural cider/perry), they add a 50% margin (can be lower) and add 20% VAT = customer pays £8.10. You can see how the price quickly climbs. The price on the shop shelf is determined by the owner.
