I’m David, the 7th generation on my Mum’s side (that we have records for) to have been born and lived in Herefordshire.
Almost a century ago my Great Grandfather – W. Redvers Aspey and his son Robert handpicked cider apples and perry pears from the Dark Orchard, and with the help of their trusty horse, Boxer, milled and pressed them before fermenting in oak barrels – one of which remains on the farm today.
It’s now my privilege to pick up where they left off and handpick fruit from the same trees. It is this connection to my ancestors through the land, the process of cider making, and a love of the beautiful traditional orchards of Yarkhill that will keep Redvers alive.
